ALISON KAY - BIOGRAPHY ARTIST STATEMENT Having slab built for many years, I now coil build and find that this method has freed me up to explore a wider range of sculptural shapes. I get my inspiration from plants, architecture and the human body. My ideas start on paper and are then carried out on clay. I develop the form into a series and then move onto a new idea. I use a combination of curves and sharp edges to create a tension and energy in my work. Currently I am investigating alternatives to glaze such as diamond polishing, terra sigillata, burnishing and smoke firing with the aim of achieving an integration of surface and form. My objective is to show my work in galleries in Ireland and abroad. |
