Having graduated with a degree in 3D Design- Ceramics from the Kent Institute of Art and Design, England in 2000, Louise Browne relocated her home and studio to the West of Ireland in the summer of 2007. Where the varied landscapes and stunning beaches found in the Connemara region are increasingly reflected in her work.

Texture appears in her work in two major forms; that of the smock which is used as a piece of clay fabric, cut out following a pattern to make a rigid form. The second a traditionally decorative fashion through the exploration of imprinted details such as leaves, ferns, and feathers which are burnt off in firing, to create complex and original designs.

In all of Louise’s work textures are combined to create continuity between the surfaces of the porcelain, intensity and colour are produced through glazes applied by hand, where the excess on the raised surface is removed, highlighting the very nature of the original smocked or imprinted detail.
