SHEELAGH FLANNERY - BIOGRAPHY

ARTIST STATEMENT

My objective as a craftsperson is to create work that is fun, colourful and makes people smile that continues to change and evolve. Also to stay employed, to keep my work selling, to keep my market moving, spreading move into different markets.

Shelagh Flannery is a graduate of the Limerick School of Art & Design and the Pottery Skills course in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. She then worked with various potters at home and abroad developing her skills. In 1999 Shelagh opened her own studio, “Shelly Pots”, where the sculptural based products of people and dogs that she originally developed in collage came to fruition.

These pieces were based on the concept of the strong relationship between pet owners and pets and visa versa. The people range from 25-30 inches in height.

Some are based on everyday personalities with a touch of colour and humour. The other range have wings 'Streetangels' inspired by nightlife. The dogs range in all shapes and sizes from small, medium to large (7 inches high, 9 inches high, 12 inches high).
